During this time, Zak has taught hundreds of students, both children and adults, in the art of Brazilian and Traditional Jiu Jitsu. His supportive and approachable style has made him popular with all his students and he is always delighted to welcome new members to the club. He holds a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Ben Hall.
Ben Hall, a 3rd dan black belt and the Head Instructor of the Carlson Gracie Team in Australia, having been awarded his brown belt by Carlson Gracie Sr and later his black belt by Carlson Gracie Jr, in 2007. It was during one of his many training trips to the original Carlson Gracie Academy in Copacabana, Brazil, that Ben was asked to officially represent the Carlson Gracie Team in Australia. Whilst representing the Carlson Gracie Team, Ben has had success as a competitor at State, National and International competitions as well as competing with the best Jiu-Jitsu athletes in the world at the Mundial (World) Championships in Brazil.
Carlson Gracie Snr, Grandmaster and 9th degree black belt, was the eldest son of Carlos Gracie, who was introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from infancy and displayed remarkable skills from an early age – even competing at the tender age of 5. He grew up to be an avid competitor and a skillful fighter as he would test his skills against numerous challengers to continually improve and develop. After Carlson Gracie Snr’s passing in 2006, his eldest son Carlson Gracie Jr, a 5th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under his father, became the head representative of the Carlson Gracie Association. Like his father, Carlson Jr started training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a young age and worked side by side with his father for many years.
